TAPE DRIVE, METHOD AND PROGRAM CAPABLE OF USING HIGH RESOLUTION TAPE DIRECTORY (HRTD) STORED IN END OF DATA IN INDEX PARTITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high speed access capable of storing high resolution tape directory (HRTD) on a tape with a format suitable for an LTO (Linear Tape-Open) format.SOLUTION: A tape drive system includes: a file system capable of successively performing access to data on a tape medium; and a file access controller for managing the data. The file access controller writes a file on the tape medium, and writes the pointer of the written file in the index of the tape medium, and the pointer is managed by the file access controller. Furthermore, a high resolution tape directory (HRTD) including the detail position information of data on the tape medium is created, and when a tape cartridge is unloaded, the HRTD is stored as a part of the end of data (EOD) of the index.
