PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fastening device and a fastening method capable of avoiding misalignment of a bolt and a nut runner.SOLUTION: A fastening device 500 comprises: a nut runner 530 to be engaged with a fastening object component mounted on a workpiece 100; moving means 520 for moving the nut runner 530 in order to engage the nut runner 530 with the fastening object component; rotating means 560 for coupling the fastening object component to the workpiece 100 by rotating the nut runner 530; and control means 510 for setting the nut runner 530 to be freely movable by setting the moving means 520 to be free while the rotating means 560 is driven.
