Described herein are compositions and methods for treating or preventing ischemic injury. In particular, the methods and compositions relate to the use of a neuroprotective steroid, such as progesterone or allopregnanolone, and a thrombolytic agent, such as tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). Also described are compositions and methods for reducing the risks of thrombolytic agent treatment using a neuroprotective steroid. |
