The method involves moving a tool (1) into a movement along a first axis (X), alternately in a first movement direction (X1) and opposite to the second movement direction (X2). The tool is configured engagement in the first direction (X1) with a workpiece (2). The workpiece is machined by the tool. The workpiece is moved such that a predetermined workpiece contour is formed by the machining of the workpiece by the superposition movements of the tool and workpiece.
