The method involves forging longitudinal beam (1) using light metal or light metal alloy. A cavity (9) is formed on base portion (7) of longitudinal beam, and stiffening element (11) is out-forged from the cavity. Several sheet portions (17,19,21,23,25) are arranged on specific region of cavity, and longitudinal beam portions (3,5) of longitudinal beam are arranged in respective inner and outer region of shell structure of motor vehicle. An independent claim is included for a longitudinal beam.
