<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a coated tool which reduces the droplet and oxygen contents in a composition range in which the contents of droplets and oxygen contained unavoidably in a hard film of a nitride or a carbonitride containing Al and Si tend to increase.SOLUTION: A method of producing a coated tool is for producing a coated tool in which the surface of the base material of a tool is surface-coated with a hard film of a nitride or a carbonitride containing Al and Si, and the coating is carried out by arc ion plating by the use of a cathode having a combined content of Al and Si of 70% or higher in terms of the atomic ratio. Prior to the coating, electric power is supplied to the cathode, while insulating the cathode from the base material, in order to carry out preparatory discharge.</p> |
