[Class 146 (ii)] An envelope having on the closure flap 2 a stripe 3 of permanently tacky adhesive is prevented from premature sealing &c. by the provision of a zone 4, which is repellent to the adhesive, against which the stripe 3 is folded. As shown, the zone 4 is provided on the flap 2, but it may be provided on a foldable flap on the back of the envelope. Sealing is effected by pressing the closure flap 2 against the untreated back of the envelope. The adhesive may comprise a mixture of rubber or cellulose and resin, and the repellent a film of casein, glue, starch, or resin with which is incorporated a high percentage of a lubricant such as sodium oleate or sodium laurate.</p> |
