PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slag discharge device and a slag discharge method in a gasification facility having several slag discharging system in which filamentous slag is not accumulated at a branch part in a slag discharging system, no closing at the branch part of the slag discharging system with filamentous slag occurs and water-granulated slag is discharged stably.SOLUTION: A slag discharging device of this invention comprises a branch part for dividing quenching water containing slag to several discharging systems, a cut valve arranged at an upstream side of the branch part, piping arranged between the branch part and the cut valve so as to supply piping purged water under a closed state of the cut valve, and a changing-over part arranged inside the branch part to guide the quenching water to the selected discharging system of several discharging systems and change over the guidance of the quenching water from the selected discharging system to another discharging system after the piping purged water is supplied.
