This focal-plane shutter is equipped with: a substrate having an opening; a curtain for opening and closing the opening; an actuator rotor for driving the curtain; an output member which has a first gear part and which is caused to rotate by the rotor; a drive member for driving the curtain, rotating around a prescribed axial center, and having a second gear part for engaging the first gear part; and a position-determining part for contacting the drive member, and defining one end of the rotational range of the drive member. Therein, the first and second gear parts and the position-determining part overlap one another in the direction of a plane perpendicular to the axial center.
