The system (1) has a control device (3) connected with a camera (6) and a ventilation system (2) of a vehicle. The control device actuates the ventilation system according to a pre-defined mode if the control device identifies a smoker (51) within a space (4) based on signals of the camera. The control device detects cigarette shape, cigarette color, smoke, glow and/or flame in a head area of a person by the camera. The control device identifies a driver, a front seat passenger and/or a person in rear part of the vehicle as smoker or non-smoker (52). An independent claim is also included for a method for actuating a ventilation system.
