<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal optical device and a display device which provide high quality display.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal optical device including a liquid crystal optical element and a drive part is provided according to an embodiment. The liquid crystal optical element includes a first and second substrate parts and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate part includes a first substrate and first to third electrodes. The second substrate part includes a second substrate and first to third counter electrodes. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the first substrate part and the second substrate part. The drive part sets a first potential to the first electrode, a second potential equal to or lower than the first potential to the second electrode, a third potential lower than the second potential to the third electrode, a first counter potential lower than the first electrode to the first counter electrode, a second counter potential lower than the second potential to the second counter electrode and a third counter potential higher than the second counter potential to the third counter electrode.</p> |
