Provided is an automatic fire extinguisher that is compact and that can be easily installed near an object of fire extinguishing for which there is limited space therearound. A thermoplastic resin container (12) is pre-filled with a fire extinguishing agent (14) containing a compound that is liquid at at least 25°C (room temperature), has a boiling point of at least 75°C or less and has a fire extinguishing effect. The container (12) is installed near an object of fire extinguishing, and when a fire breaks out from the object of fire extinguishing, the container (12) is caused to break due to the heat of the fire and the pressure of the fire extinguishing agent (14) and the fire extinguishing agent is caused to spew from the broken portion of the container (12). As a result, the fire is extinguished by effectively blocking air, cooling the fire source and suppressing the combustion reaction.
