931,132. Extrusion presses. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 24, 1961 [Jan. 22, 1960], No. 2525/60. Class 83 (4). A metal extrusion press has at least three billet containers mounted in a rotatable carrier for co-operation with at least three stations, one being axially aligned with the centre-line of the press for extrusion whilst at each of the other stations one or more ancillary operations are performed between two extrusions, each of the outer stations being provided with one or more ancillary devices, each having an implement displaceable parallel both to the base of a container and the centre-line of the press. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the container carrier 8 is rotatable about a trunnion 9 to bring 3 containers 5, 6 and 7 successively opposite an extrusion station A located centrally of the platen 10 whilst the other two containers are in vertical alignment, station B having a device incorporating an axially movable pusher for ejecting a pressure stem and/or the discard, whilst at the third station C is located a billetloading device 17 comprising an hydraulically operated stem which pushes the billet from a tray 18 into the container 7. Two assemblies 11, 12 are mounted on a rotary carrier 13 carried by a trunnion 14 which lies in a plane containing the axes of the carrier trunnion 9 and the die 11, which is coaxial with the centre-line of the press. The embodiment of Fig. 2 comprises a press 30 in which one of the four columns, 20, provides the support for the container carrier 26, the latter being rotatable by a motor 27 and reduction gear 28 to bring the containers successively opposite the extrusion station D, the other stations being simultaneously engaged by ancillary devices as previously described. In addition to ejection the container at stations B or E may be serviced by cleaning and cooling and/or lubricating by e.g. glass. |
