发明名称 Hydrostatic press for an elongated object
摘要 930,747. Forging-machines. BAROGENICS Inc. May 2, 1962 [May 24, 1961], No. 16887/62. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIX] Apparatus for subjecting an object 24 to high pressure, for example, 2,000 to 200,000 atmospheres, comprises a housing 10 containing a number of wedge-shaped pressure-multiplying elements 16, 17, 18 which are arranged around and define with their inner faces 16<SP>11</SP>, 17<SP>11</SP>, 18<SP>11</SP> an elongated cavity, the ends of which are closed by end pieces 26, 27, the inner face of each element being of smaller area than the outer face 16<SP>1</SP>, 17<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>1</SP> of that element and the elements being movable between the end pieces towards the centre of the cavity to compress an object within the cavity when fluid pressure is applied to the annular space 22 between the outer faces of the elements and the housing. Each element may consist of a number of rigidly-connected portions, the inner portions 16c, 17c, 18c being of hard material, such as tungsten carbide. The elements are enclosed within a rubber sleeve 19 secured at its ends by rings 20, 21 to shoulders 11, 12 of the housing and strips 25 prevent extrusion of the sleeve into gaps 39 between the elements during a compressing operation. The ends of the cavity for the object 24 are closed by end pieces 26, 27 which may be secured to the ends 11, 12 of the housing or be secured to each other by tie bolts 28 passing, with clearance, through holes 29 in the elements, the arrangement being such that the end pieces do not restrict movement of the elements when fluid pressure is supplied through a passage 23 to the space 22. The object to be compressed is embedded in a normally rigid material, such as aluminium silicate or pyprophyllite which becomes viscious under high pressure, the material ensuring that pressure is uniformly transmitted to the object and entering the gaps 39 to form a seal. Piston-andcylinder devices 30 interconnect the elements and when supplied with fluid pressure through pipes serve to separate the element. Electrical heating elements (not shown) may be provided to heat the object while it is under pressure. In other embodiments, the cavity may be of square, hexahedral, octahedral or polygonal cross-section with sides of unequal length and four, six or eight elements may be used. The inner surfaces of the cavity may be planar or curvilinear so that the workpiece has an irregular cross-sectional shape. Specifications 899,523 and 906,962 are referred to.
