Opening and closing apparatus for a fanlight 2 comprises an operating member 18 secured at one end to an actuating member 14, attached to the window frame 1, and slotted at the other end to engage a guide bolt 46 on the window 2 and two arms 55 and 56 which have a common pivot bolt 60 guided in a slot 61 in the member 18 and are connected respectively to the window 2 by bolt 46 and to a bracket 58 on the frame. An extension 65 of the arm 56 is slotted and engages a guide bolt 64 on the window. When the actuating member 14 is drawn to the left the window closes and a further movement of the cable 14 displaces the member 18 to the left in a direction parallel to the window and bolts the window by engaging the hooks 49 and 50 on the member 18 in slots 51 and 52 formed in the frame 1. The bolting movement of operating member 18 is opposed by a guide bolt 53 on the member, operating in a guide slot 66 in a bracket 48 on the window, until the window is properly closed. |
