A double clutch arrangement for vehicle window winding mechanism alternatively power and hand operated, comprises a shaft 1 fast with a pinion 3 and clutchable to a manually operable handle 16 by dog clutch teeth 18, 19 engaged by pushing the handle to the right, and clutchable to a worm-wheel 5 forming part of a worm reduction gear driven by an electric motor by clutch balls 14 housed in slots in the shaft 1 and engageable with recesses in a hub of the worm-wheel 5. A rod 7 is fast with the handle 16 and extends through the hollow interior of the shaft 1, and in its rightward position a reduced part 71 of the rod registers with the clutch balls to disengage the power drive. Rod 7 is biased to the left by a spring 8. The output pinion 3 may be replaced by a pulley. Instead of dog clutch teeth 18, 19 the handle 16 may have a square or other section shank fitting in a correspondingly shaped socket provided at the end of the shaft 1. In a modification (Fig. 7, not shown) the handle can slide axially relative to the rod 7 and a reduced circular section extension of the handle shank bottoms in a bore in the rod 7 so that it is shifted axially when the handle is pushed in. A spring-pressed ball in a circular section part of the shank engages a ledge in the bore of the driven shaft 1 to prevent undesired complete removal of the handle when its shank is disengaged from the socket.
