PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for selecting either a first retrieval method or a second retrieval method and executing retrieval, the first retrieval method for starting retrieval of information including a first character regardless of whether or not a second character is inputted when the first character is inputted and the second retrieval method for determining whether or not the second character is inputted after the first character is inputted and starting retrieval of information including the first character in accordance with the determination that the second character is not inputted. SOLUTION: When retrieving a destination from a destination list within an apparatus, a first retrieval method is selected, for starting retrieval of information including a first character regardless of whether or not a second character is inputted when the first character is inputted. When retrieving a destination from a destination list outside the apparatus, a second retrieval method is selected, for determining whether or not the second character is inputted after the first character is inputted (step S306) and starting retrieval of information including the first character in accordance with the determination that the second character is not inputted.
