Disclosed are a binarization device and a method for digital images capable of quickly and accurately performing binarization process preventing disturbance applied to digital images inputted in real time. The binarization device for digital images comprises a line memo unit for successively storing pixels of a digital image inputted from a camera; a mask applying unit for applying a predetermined size of a mask to the pixels stored in the line memo unit and computing the maximum and minimum pixel values in the pixels and the pixel value of the central pixel in the mask; and a binarization determining unit for determining the binarization value of the central pixel by using the difference between the maximum and minimum pixel values, a pixel value of the central pixel, a difference between the maximum and central pixel values, and a difference between the central and minimum pixel values. |
