A circular knitting machine for producing plush fabric has plush bars 17 and cutter bars 16 arranged in slots in a dial 15, one bar 17 and one bar 16 being arranged in each occupied slot, comprising actuating means for moving the plush bars radially with respect to the dial, the cutter bars being fixed against radial movement, and cutting edges provided on both bars arranged so that during radially inward movement of the plush bar the edges co-operate to sever a plush thread stretched over the plush bar by a cylinder needle. Each cutter bar 16 has a cutting edge 16<SP>3</SP>. The plush bars each have two frangible feet which are respectively broken off to provide "long" or "short" plush bars. The remaining feet engage respective cam channels 19<SP>1</SP>, 19<SP>2</SP> (see Fig. 6) in a dial cam 19. In the cylinder 10 is provided, in alternate pairs, short needles 11 and long needles 12. A short plush 17a and a cutter bar is provided between the needles of each pair of long needles 12 and a long plush bar 17b and a cutter bar between the needles of each pair of short needles. At a first feed station I the short needles are raised and the short plush bars 17a. Thread guide 14 presents the ground thread 13 underneath the plush bars to the short needles, while guide 21 lays the plush thread over the short plush bars. The needles retract to grasp both threads and form two thread stitches, and the plush bars retract to sever the plush loops passing over them. At the second feed station II the operation is repeated for the long needles and long plush bars, each two consecutive working points together producing one course. Fabric take up. As the plush loops are cut a stripper 23 strokes the severed ends down between the cylinder 10 and the dial 15. |
