A separator, for the balls of a ball-bearing slewing gear, has a spherical outer surface with a radius of curvature slightly smaller than that of the balls to be separated and has two oppositely-directed curved bearing surfaces for reception of the two balls. In an embodiment, balls 6, Fig. 1, are inserted either through a hole 7 or through apertures 8, 9 and are located between races 1, 3. Balls 11, Fig. 2, are separated by separators 10 or 13 or 14. The separator 10 has bearing faces which are partspherically shaped for engagement with the balls 11 and has a concentric bore 12 therethrough which receives lubricant; the separator 13 is hollow and has a hole 16 therein which facilitates fitting the separator into position; and the separator 14 has an offcentre bore 15 therethrough and also a hole 16 therein. The last separator is modified to allow positioning between the first and last balls, of each of the part-spherically-shaped bearing faces being intersected by a part-circular shaped recess D, Fig. 3. All the separators may have part-circular shaped recesses D and may be made of synthetic plastics material or of metal. |
