937,784. Switch contacts; arc-rupturing in switches. MIDLAND ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. May 26, 1961 [May 27, 1960], No. 18759/60. Class 38 (5). The fixed contact of a switch comprises a rigid part 11 and a resilient part 12 arranged to receive a moving contact 16 therebetween as shown. A casing comprising side plates 9 and end plates 8 of electrically insulating and heat resisting material closely fits the fixed contact and has a cover 13 comprising two plates of similar material secured by screws 7 with spacers (Fig. 2, not shown) between the plates such that a narrow air space 14 is open to the atmosphere on the two sides. Slots 15 are provided only slightly larger than the limbs 16 such that when the moving contact is withdrawn the resulting arcs are confined until the ends of limbs 16 pass through the space 14, whereupon the arcs are blown laterally into the space 14 and extinguished. Specification 937,783 is referred to. |
