<p>A method of operating an access point in a wireless network comprises determining to switch from a first communication channel to a second communication channel, generating a message frame comprising a channel switch announcement element 100 having a channel list identifying a plurality of second communication channels 104, 105, 106, and wirelessly transmitting the message frame. The channel switch announcement element 100 may include an element ID field 101, a length field 102 and the channel list. In a preferred arrangement, the message frame may also comprise a validity timer field (134, fig.11) identifying a length of time that the second communication channels are valid and control information (113, fig.9) specifying a priority ordering of the second communication channels. When a client station receives the message frame, it switches to operate on one of the second communication channels.</p> |
