[Also in Division D1] Apparatus for compacting metal strands and of the kind having rotatably mounted rollers with peripheries so shaped as to form a die-like aperture when placed in operative association has each roller supported in self-aligning bearings on a yoke pivoted on a rigid structure, the yokes being joined by a web-like member at the ends remote from the pivoted mounting. There are preferably three rollers 19 disposed at 120 degrees to each other, each carried in assemblies 16, 17 pivoted to members connected to a bracket 11. Assemblies 16, 17 are also connected at their outer ends through bolts 26 located in adjusting nuts 27 which screw into a member 25 that is supported for vertical adjustment by a screw 28. In operation, the rollers 19 have contact with each other at their bevelled edges and form a roller die for strands passing between them. Several compacting heads may be arranged in series. |
