A tubular reactor (fig 1; 1) comprising means 22, 23 within the reactor which divert flow 24 from axial flow and means (fig 4) to rotate the reactor through reciprocating arcs about the longitudinal axis of the reactor. The rotation means allow the reactor to rotate in a clockwise direction and an anticlockwise director about the reactors longitudinal axis. A tubular reactor (fig 1: 1) comprising a vessel with connections for continuous feed (fig 1: 4) and discharge (fig 1: 5) of process material whereby the body of the vessel is capable of rotation through reciprocating arcs to mix the process material and means are provided within the vessel whereby the flow path of the process material along the vessel is diverted from axial flow. The means to divert the flow from axial flow is ideally provided by static agitators 22 such as a baffle and/or dynamic agitators 23 such as an agitator mounted upon a rotating shaft inside the reactor. The reactor may further include temperature control means (fig 1: 6), temperature sensors and analytical devices. |
