Alkyl or aromatic nitriles are saturated with a halide of a metal of Group II, III, IV, V or VIII of the Periodic Table and polymerized by heating them to not above 300 DEG C. Specified nitriles are acetonitrile, benzonitrile and propionitrile while zinc, aluminium, titanium tetra, and ferric chlorides are specified catalysts. The polymerization may take place in an inert atmosphere under bulk conditions. The polymers are heat-resistant (up to 500 DEG to 700 DEG C.) semi conductor materials. |
