The breaker (1) has a drive system (30) that is adapted to move a movable contact element (22) along a separator axis (8) relative to a stationary contact element (90). A retaining unit (71) is provided on a counter-holding mechanism (41), to hold a third arc contact (40) on a second arc contact (60). A return system (80) is biased with a biasing force, such that the biasing force is greater than holding force. The third contact is reset in an opening direction (7), such that a stationary contact group (55) is electrically isolated from a movable contact group (66). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for opening of an electrical high voltage circuit breaker; and (2) an isolator module for a gas-insulated switchgear.
