[Also in Division F2] An oil supply system for a burner 10 comprises a pump 2, a pressure-regulating valve 20, a manually-adjustable modulator valve 22, an orificed valve 24, a backpressure regulating valve 26, a by-pass valve 18 and a solenoid valve 36 connected as shown in Fig. 1. All the valves except the solenoid valve 36 are disposed in a controller housing 5 and the conduits 11, 12, 13, 14 connecting the valves in the controller housing form a rectangle. Pressurized air is supplied by a conduit 8 and passes through a conduit 33 to atomize the oil at the burner 10; through a conduit 32 and a further solenoid valve 38 to purge oil from the burner; and through a conduit 30 to the pressure-regulating valves 20, 26. The two solenoid valves 36, 38 are mounted in an assembly 6 secured to the controller housing 5. The system also comprises an oil heater 7, a thermometer 42 and pressure gauges 48, 54. The modulator valve 22 splits the flow from the pump 2 so that a metered amount is directed to the burner 10, and the remainder flows through the orificed valve 24 and backpressure regulator 26 to the fuel reservoir 3. The modulator valve, Fig. 8, comprises a valve stem 118 having a slot 119 of varying depth and slidable in an orifice 117 in a block 116. The orificed valve 24, Fig. 8, comprises a manually operable valve member 62<SP>1</SP> having an orifice 130 and adapted to coact with a sealing 60<SP>1</SP> in the housing body 40. The by-pass valve 18 is similar in construction to the orificed valve 24 but has no orifice. The pressure regulator 20, Fig. 7, comprises a valve element 84 urged by a spring 87 and adapted to coact with a valve seat 75 in the body housing. A stem 94 extends through the valve seat and abuts a diaphragm 88 loaded on the other side by an adjustable spring-urged piston 98 and possibly by air pressure supplied through a connector 104. The backpressure valve 26 comprises a valve element 108 of synthetic rubber or fluorinated polythene secured to a further diaphragm 88 and adapted to abut a valve seat 110 in the housing body until the pressure in the chamber 132 is sufficient to overcome the spring 96, and possibly air pressure, loading the diaphragm. The oil solenoid valve 36, Fig. 9, comprises a plunger 144 urged by a spring 152 towards a valve seat 140. The air solenoid valve 38 is opened during purging and comprises a spring-urged element 170 mounted on a stem and adapted to close a passageway 158 leading to the burner 10. One or more of the regulators, solenoid valves, by-pass valve, modulator valve, or orificed valve can be omitted, in which case the housing is sealed by plugs or plates.
