PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine at low costs which suppresses an occurrence of skipped stitches by forming loops and performs excellent sewing when sewing a cloth that is soft like jersey, elastic, has thickness, and easily warps. SOLUTION: The sewing machine 100 includes a machine frame 2, an upper shaft 3 which is freely rotatably supported by the machine frame 2 and drives a needle bar 12, a lower shaft 17 which is freely rotatably supported by the machine frame 2 and drives a shuttle 41, a timing belt 22 for linking the upper shaft 3 and the lower shaft 17 and synchronizing rotation of the upper shaft 3 with the rotation of the lower shaft 17, and a needle shuttle timing adjustment mechanism 23 which includes pulleys 13 and 14 for normally contacting the timing belt 22 and changes phases of the upper shaft 3 and the lower shaft 17 according to the amplitude of the tension pulleys 13 and 14. Flexure of a cloth through which a needle 39 fixed to the needle part 12 is put is considered to adjust timing with which the needle 39 meets the shuttle 41 in accordance with a needle drop point.
