A time-controlled digital data recorder for automatically making successive coded records along a tape 171 of e.g. electrical energy consumed in successive quarter-hours throughout say a week, comprises (a) a count-accumulating code disc 64 driven stepwise from a zero position towards an upper limit one step for each unit of energy consumed (see Specification 947, 572) (b) a multi-punch tape puncher for recording the coded digital value registered by the disc 64 in its count-position juxtaposed to the punches (see Specification 947, 573, for the operation of the puncher) (c) a synchronous motor measuring the quarter-hourly intervals and controlling the tape advance during each interval and, at the end of each interval, initiating punching and, thereafter, the return of disc 64 to zero (see Specification 947, 574) and (d) a mechanical interlock between the disc 64 and the puncher for immobilizing the disc 64 at the end of each interval, for activating the puncher immediately thereafter, for returning the disc 64 to zero and for mobilizing the disc 64 for stepwise advancement during the next interval immediately after completion of punching, the interlock barring each phase unless the preceding phase has been completed (see Specification 947,574). The disc 64 is driven by a stalled motor controlled by an escapement and the mechanical interlock arrangements include provision for the string of one or two pulses if received while the disc 64 is immobilized and for their registration by the disc immediately it is mobilized (see also Specification 947,574).</p> |
