The invention relates to a device and method for cleaning, activating and pretreating a work piece by means of carbon dioxide snow particles that are generated from a pressurized carbon dioxide fluid and at least one carrier pressure gas, wherein the carbon dioxide fluid is fed via a feed unit of a mixing unit (4), into which also the carrier pressure gas flows. Carbon dioxide snow particles form in the mixing unit (4), disperse, are accelerated in an outlet nozzle and conducted onto the work piece without the carbon dioxide fluid being expanded before being fed into the mixing unit (4).
