[Also in Division F1] A vapour generator comprises a feed pump driven by a turbine of a gas turbine plant, another turbine of which drives the compressor of the plant and an electric generator, the latter turbine being adapted to run at constant speed at all vapour generator loads and the compressor being adapted to deliver a controllable quantity of air. In the gas turbine plant the compressor 5 is controlled, either by a throttle in its intake 12 or by adjustable rotor and/or stator blades, to provide sufficient air for combustion in a steam generator 18 and sufficient gas to drive turbines 1 and 2 and a condensate feed pump 9; any excess energy derived from the gas being utilized in driving an electric generator 7. Turbine 1 driving the compressor 5 and generator 7 is driven at constant speed, whereas the turbine 2 has its speed controlled to regulate the supply from the condensate pump 9. Air from the compressor 5 is supplied to the combustion chamber of the steam generator 18 by way of a heat exchanger 26. Steam produced in the tube 20 is fed to a consumer, for example, a steam turbine. The combustion products in the steam generator 18 are fed to the turbine 1 and then through the heat exchanger 26 to the turbine 2 from where they are exhausted through a conduit 19. The heat exchanger 26 may instead be provided in the exhaust conduit 19 for preheating the air or a heat exchanger may be disposed in a condensate conduit (not shown) to preheat the condensate by the gas exhausted from the turbine 2. An additional combustion chamber 25 is provided for regulating purposes. An electrically driven reserve feed pump (not shown) allows the main feed pump to be overhauled while the turbine 1 remains in operation. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the heat exchanger 26 is omitted and the steam generator is split into two parts, the lower part forming a combustion chamber as before and the upper part being supplied with exhaust gas from the turbine 2, which gas after heating the upper part of tube 20 is exhausted through a chimney. In a second alternative embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the heat exchanger 26 and the combustion chamber 25 are omitted and the air from the compressor 5 is instead supplied to a separate combustion chamber burning, for example, oil or gas, the resulting gases being then supplied to the turbines 1 and 2 before passing to the steam generator combustion chamber for further combustion to heat the tube 20, the gases finally being exhausted through a chimney.
