It is described a toll system (SYS) having a position determination system (PES) for determining the position of a vehicle (FAR) having an on-board toll payment device (BE2), by which the controller (ST2) of the toll payment device (BE2) and /or the controller (ST3) of the billing centre (ABZ) are/is configured for calculating a signature (SIG) which is characteristic of a route travelled as characteristic features of a trajectory of the travelled route (STR). The controller (ST3) of the billing centre (ABZ) being configured for establishing, on the basis of signature (SIG), whether the route (STR) is subject to a toll charge, additionally the controller (ST3) being configured in the event that the travelled route (STR) is subject to atoll charge to check on the basis of a user authorisation. The billing centre (ABZ) includes the controller (ST3) being configured to check on the basis of the vehicle (FAR) is authorised to use said route (STR).
