A mobile communications device is configured to store a disable code set and defined by a user of the communications device. In the event that the mobile communications device is lost or stolen, the use contacts the lost or stolen mobile communications device from another communications device, transmitting to the lost or stolen mobile communications device an on-air disable code. Match circuitry in the lost of stolen communications device compares the received disable code to the disable code previously set and stored in the lost or stolen mobile communications device. If the match circuitry determines that the received disable code matches the stored disable code, access to private user data in the lost or stolen mobile communications device is prevented. |
