An ear stud (1) for identifying an animal, provided with a housing (2) and a transponder (4) received in the housing which is designed for transmitting an indentif ication code upon introduction of the ear stud into an electromagnetic interrogation field, wherein the transponder is provided with at least one antenna coil (6), wherein the antenna coil is manufactured from at least one wire comprising at least one aluminum core.
