PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forging roll for use in cold rolling industry, related to a field of the forging roll and related to manufacturing of the forging roll.SOLUTION: This invention is related to a forging roll for use in a cold rolling industry and a method for manufacturing such the roll. The forging roll comprises: a steel composition; and a microstructure comprising tempered martensite with retained austenite ratio of less than 5% per volume, and an open eutectic carbide network with eutectic carbide of less than 5% per volume. The roll exhibits hardness of from 780 HV to 840 HV and internal compressive stress of -300 MPa to -500 MPa in absolute values.
