<p>Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for content synchronization, relate to the field of communications, and allow synchronization servers to actively initiate content synchronization, thus reducing load for terminal devices, and increasing processing efficiency. The method comprises: a synchronization server determines a terminal device that needs to perform content synchronization; the synchronization server determines a unique identifier of the terminal device that needs to perform content synchronization and a synchronization application unique identifier; the synchronization server transmits a synchronization message to a push server, where the synchronization message comprises the unique identifier of the terminal device that needs to perform content synchronization, the synchronization application unique identifier, a command word, and attached information, the command word is for use in indicating a synchronization operation that needs to be executed by the terminal device that needs to perform content synchronization, and the attached information comprises the parameters needed to complete the synchronization operation.
