PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide clean, safe and more efficient processes for oligomerizing unsaturated hydrocarbons, such as alkene, on an industrial scale.SOLUTION: An unsaturated hydrocarbon such as alkene is reacted in the presence of an indium (III) chloride ionic liquid or other acidic or Lewis acidic ionic liquid particularly for producing dimers, trimers and/or tetramers. The product distribution can be controlled by changing reaction conditions, for example, the ionic liquid, its composition, the temperature, the reaction time and the reaction setup. |
