PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens array optical system capable of satisfying both image light intensity and imaging performance and reducing unevenness in image light intensity and imaging performance.SOLUTION: A lens array optical system 102 comprises a plurality of lens optical system arrays, each of which has a plurality of lens optical systems arranged in a first direction and which are arranged in a second direction (Z-direction) perpendicular to the first direction (Y-direction) and an optical axis direction (X-direction). Each of the plurality of lens optical systems of each of the plurality of lens optical system arrays acts as an erecting equal-magnification imaging system in a cross-sectional plane (XY cross-section) perpendicular to the second direction, and acts as an inverting imaging system in a cross-sectional plane (ZX cross-section) perpendicular to the first direction. An optical axis of each of the plurality of lens optical systems of each of the plurality of lens optical system arrays is at a distance from that of an adjacent lens optical system array in the first direction and is located on a single line.
