The purpose of the present invention is to provide a compact projector of simple construction capable of providing a 3D display. This projector has at least one light source (11), a polarized-light-splitting element (2) for splitting light from the light source (11) into two linearly polarized light beams of mutually orthogonal axes of polarization and emitting the two light beams in the same direction, a TIR prism (9) through which the two linearly polarized light beams pass, a reflective optical modulation element (8) on which the two linearly polarized light beams emitted from the TIR prism (9) impinge and off which the light beams reflect toward the TIR prism (9) after being modulated, a projection lens (10) for enlarging and projecting the two linearly polarized light beams modulated by the reflective optical modulation element (8) and transmitted through the TIR prism (9), and a rotating prism (6) rotatably provided along the optical path between the polarized-light-splitting element (2) and the reflective optical modulation element (8) and adapted for causing the two linearly polarized light beams impinging from the polarization split element (2) to be emitted from different positions according to the rotation. |
