Although it is possible to detect people riding in a driver's seat and front passenger seat, it is difficult to detect people riding in rear passenger seats, and it has been impossible to accurately measure the number of passengers. An image acquisition means (100) captures an images of the inside of a vehicle from outside of the vehicle (the shoulder of a road or the like). A view determination means (102) estimates the appearance of the vehicle in the image captured by the image acquisition means (100), and outputs view determination results. A person detection means (101) performs front face, side face and tilted face detection on the image captured by the image acquisition means (100), detects people, and outputs person detection results. A vehicle interior estimation means (103) uses person detection information and view determination results information to determine where the people that have been detected are located in the vehicle, and outputs vehicle interior position estimation information. A results integration means (104) integrates results detected for a plurality of continuously-captured images, and calculates the number of passengers. |
