摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant restraint system in which a decrease in a total amount of kinetic energy to be absorbed through deformation is suppressed and furthermore a load which an occupant's body receives from a seat belt can be reduced.SOLUTION: In a seat belt device 10, when a motor 80 is actuated, a tension load corresponding to a stress with which a twisting deformation of a variable part 76 of a torsion bar 50 is changed from an elastic deformation to a plastic deformation is applied to a seat belt 26. In this state, when an occupant is inertially moved forward in a vehicle, the seat belt 26 is drawn out of a winding shaft 24, and the winding shaft 24 is rotated in the drawing direction. This causes the twisting deformation of the plastic deformation to occur in the variable part 76. Consequently, the stress in the variable part 76 is not increased any more and therefore, compared with a structure in which the twisting deformation of the variable part 76 begins with the elastic deformation, a total amount of kinetic energy to be absorbed can be increased. According to the increase, the stress, that is, a load which the occupant's body receives from the seat belt 26 can be set to be smaller.</p>
