SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR STATISTICAL SHARING IN OPTICAL COMMUNICATION NETWORK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that increases statistical capacity by statistical sharing and reduces a bandwidth requirement in an optical communication network.SOLUTION: A method includes the steps of: identifying a peak transmission rate and a base transmission rate for each of a plurality of client interface cards (CICs) of an optical node; providing a set of universal transceivers of a plurality of universal transceivers for a particular CIC of the plurality of CICs, and thereby making the combined bandwidth of the set of universal transceivers equal to or more than the base transmission rate of the particular CIC; and reserving one or multiple sharing universal transceivers among the plurality of universal transceivers for the particular CIC when the transmission rate of the particular CIC has exceeded the base transmission rate of the particular CIC.
