In a warp knitted fabric comprising columns of stitches linked by at least two knitted or laid-in yarns, unknitted warps 4 are inserted between the columns of stitches and such a length of yarn is knitted into a given length of the columns of stitches that, on being shrunk and set, the columns of stitches are substantially inextensible, the unknitted warps being of yarn whose shrinkage is less than that of the columns of stitches. A formula is given by which the ratio of the rates of delivery of yarns 1 and 4 may be determined. The fabric may be used for garments or seat covers. |
