An apparatus and a method for estimating a state of charge (SOC) of a battery are disclosed. The apparatus for estimating a state of charge of a battery according to the present invention comprises: an input/output electric power pattern analysis unit for obtaining an input/output electric power pattern of a battery by analyzing the input/output electric power of the battery during a predetermined time period; an application state determination unit for determining a current application state of the battery by analyzing the input/output electric power pattern of the battery; and an SOC calculation unit for calculating an SOC of the battery by using a state of charge estimation algorithm corresponding to the current application state of the battery. |
