The purpose of the present invention is to provide a linear motor and a linear motor drive system which not only can be made more compact, but which also enables sharing the magnetic flux active between neighboring magnetic poles and in which the magnetic attractive force acting between the moveable element and armature is canceled out. This linear motor is provided with a moveable element formed by arranging multiple permanent magnets or magnetic materials in a row while reversing the magnetization directions, and at least two armatures which are arranged in a row in the advancement direction of the moveable element or the armatures and which comprise first magnetic pole teeth and second magnetic pole teeth arranged above and below the aforementioned permanent magnets or magnetic materials, a magnetic body connecting the first magnetic pole teeth and second magnetic pole teeth and forming a magnetic flux path, and windings arranged on the first magnetic pole teeth and second magnetic pole teeth, wherein the armatures are linked by the magnetic body, and a thrusting force is generated for moving the moveable element and the armatures relative to one another in the horizontal direction. This linear motor is characterized by having at least two different magnetic paths through which magnetic flux from the windings passes. |
