Transparent superfatted soap tablets are made from a soap mass containing, by weight of the final product (a) 1-10%, preferably 1.5-2.5%, of a polyhydric alcohol such as glycerol, pentaerythritol, sorbitol or sucrose, (b) 1-5%, preferably 1.5-2.5%, of a free fatty acid such as stearic acid or commercial mixtures of stearic and palmitic acids, the amount of (b) being not more than 1% greater than the amount of (a), (c) 15-30%, preferably 17-22.5%, water, and (d) 0.1-1.5%, preferably 0.2-1%, of a non-alkaline salt, most suitably sodium chloride or sulphate, or potassium sulphate, the mass being mechanically worked at 37-44 DEG C. until transparency is obtained. The soap used suitably comprises 70-90% sodium tallow soap and 30-10% sodium coconut oil soap, and the composition may also include lanolin, dyes, perfume, pigment, bactericide, and preservative. It is preferred that the temperature of the mass be allowed to rise to 37-44 DEG C. from 26-30 DEG C. originally by the heat developed in working the mass. After mixing, the mixture is milled, plodded, cut and stamped into tablets. Specification 783,658 is referred to. |
