The invention comprises salicyclic acid arylamides containing at least two trifluoromethyl groups, and which may also contain halogen atoms and/or nitro groups; and their preparation by reaction between a salicylic acid or a functional derivative thereof and an arylamine, either or both reactants being suitably substituted. The functional derivative of the salicylic acid may be an ester or halide; or a corresponding acylsalicylic acid or derivative may be used, the acyl residue subsequently being split off. The compounds of the invention are bactericides (see Group VI). Specification 727,343 is referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises disinfectants containing as active ingredient a salicylic acid arylamide having at least two trifluoromethyl groups, and optionally also halogen atoms and/or nitro groups (see Group IV (b)).
