This scanning endoscope system has: a light-guide unit for guiding illuminating light emitted from a light source; a light collector for collecting the illuminating light and directing the light toward an imaging subject; an optical scanning unit for oscillating the light-guide unit in a manner such that an illumination position of the illuminating light emitted toward an imaging subject follows a trajectory according to a prescribed scanning pattern, by driving one or more pairs of drive units positioned in symmetrical positions and sandwiching the light-guide unit therebetween; and a drive-signal output unit for outputting a first drive signal to one of the drive units in the pair of drive units positioned along a prescribed axial direction of the optical scanning unit, outputting a second drive signal to the other drive unit, and setting the center voltage value of the first and second drive signals to a voltage value other than 0V.
