The present invention relates to a method and a device for measuring a fitness index for determining the basic physical fitness status of a user. The method for measuring a user fitness index, according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises the steps of: receiving physical ability information of the user relative to at least one physical fitness element for measuring the basic physical fitness of the user; performing physical-ability indexing for the physical ability information according to each physical fitness element; and calculating a fitness index of the user by applying weight predetermined for the physical fitness element to the physical ability index. According to the present invention, information related to the basic physical fitness of a user can be organized so as to model the information into an index such that an average person can easily determine the status of his or her basic physical fitness according to each physical fitness element by viewing the index. Furthermore, a service providing an index by synthesizing measurement values through data connection with equipment such as InBody equipment can be provided.
