A planter row unit

A planter row unit (12) for a seeding machine (10) is disclosed. The row unit (12) comprises: a row unit frame (16) adapted to mounted to a machine frame (14); a furrow opener (20) and a furrow depth regulating member (25) both mounted to the row unit frame (16); and a furrow closing arrangement (40) movably mounted to the row unit frame(16). In order to provide row unit (12) which facilitates the adjustment of the closing wheel downforce during planting it is proposed that the furrow closing arrangement (40) has a ground contacting member (42), and a furrow closing downforce actuator (61) operable to vary force applied to soil by the ground contacting member (42) as the seeding machine (10) moves through a field.
